Do contacts change the shape of my eye?

Contact lenses can, depending on the type and the material as well as over wear, change the shape of the cornea (the front surface of the eye). Hard and/or rigid gas permeable lenses are often used to purposely change the shape of the cornea (orthokeratology). Over wear of any lens type (hard or soft) can cause corneal swelling and curvature changes. When worn properly, soft contacts rarely change the shape of the cornea.
